Youth Enterprise Development Officer –  Young Africa Zimbabwe

Young Africa Zimbabwe (YAZ) is a non-profit organisation founded and registered in 1998. The organisation empowers academically, economically and socially disadvantaged young people aged 18 to 35 years through entrepreneurship and employment. YAZ integrates vocational training with life skills education, entrepreneurship skills, psychosocial support, and wellness services to achieve its mission.

Duties

  • Execute the rollout of the microlending project in line with operational plans and timelines.

  • Conduct sensitisation activities through both physical and digital platforms.

  • Perform initial screening of youth microlending applications and assist in field-based business assessments.

  • Facilitate entrepreneurship training sessions and coordinate enterprise development support activities.

  • Conduct regular site visits to assess business operations, monitor progress, and support beneficiaries.

  • Provide mentorship to loan recipients, refining their business models.

  • Organise logistics for program activities including training venues, travel, and materials.

  • Identify opportunities to generate more jobs and entrepreneurial ventures for youth.

  • Manage field visits and practical training sessions to expose entrepreneurs to successful businesses.

  • Analyse entrepreneurship development trends, socio-economic conditions, and policy frameworks for tailored interventions.

  • Contribute to the smooth implementation of enterprise development support and address challenges.

  • Build relationships with local business coaches, mentors, and trainers.

  • Act as the primary contact for youth entrepreneurs, providing ongoing support.

  • Inspire collaboration with like-minded organisations to foster systemic change in entrepreneurship.

  • Establish partnerships with governmental agencies, NGOs, and private sector stakeholders.

  • Engage with industry experts to introduce specialised knowledge.

  • Collect field data to monitor KPIs such as revenue, job creation, and repayment rates.

  • Prepare regular reports on program progress and challenges.

  • Monitor loan repayment schedules and follow up on defaults.

  • Document success stories, case studies, and lessons learned.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Business Management, Economics, Entrepreneurship, or related field. A Master’s degree is an advantage.

  • Minimum 5 years’ experience in microfinance, SME development, or business development.

  • ILO-certified entrepreneurship trainer with experience in training and business modelling support.

  • Skilled in participatory methods for adult education and youth engagement.

  • Proven experience managing microcredit programmes, ISALs, and entrepreneurship support initiatives.

  • Strong knowledge of financial products, loan cycle management, and impact measurement.

  • Experience supporting vulnerable youth in income-generating projects.

  • Excellent stakeholder engagement, facilitation, and communication skills.

  • Proficiency in project management tools, M&E frameworks, and reporting.
