Principal Engineer – Zimbabwe Centre of High Performance Computing (ZCHPC)

Duties

  • Supervise ZCHPC Systems Support projects.

  • Lead the design, development, and optimisation of HPC systems, storage infrastructures, and cloud services.

  • Collaborate with researchers, stakeholders, and clients to assess computational and storage needs, providing scalable solutions.

  • Mentor and develop engineering staff, promoting collaboration and innovation.

  • Conduct research and development to enhance HPC and storage capabilities.

  • Ensure data security, integrity, and compliance across all services.

  • Develop and implement best practices for performance, reliability, and scalability.

  • Conduct technical and user training.

  • Recommend and oversee procurement of hardware and software.

  • Supervise administration of HPC systems, including 24/7 monitoring and maintenance.

  • Develop and maintain policies and procedures for staff, equipment, and clients.

  • Provide support to online, onsite, and remote clients.

  • Assist with network management and user account billing system development.

  • Participate in the design, installation, and configuration of HPC systems.

Qualifications

  • Master’s degree in High Performance Computing, Cyber Security, Cloud Engineering, Computer Science, Information Technology, or related field.

  • Proven experience with HPC architectures, cloud technologies, cyber security, and data storage solutions.

  • Strong problem-solving skills and ability to work under pressure.

  • Professional certification in HPC, Network Engineering, Cyber Security, or Cloud Engineering is an added advantage.

  • Strong communication skills and attention to detail.

  • Ability to work independently and within a team.

  • High-level analytical and innovative thinking.

  • Proven ability in designing and implementing parallel computing, cyber security, and cloud systems.

  • Experience collaborating with scientists, engineers, and stakeholders.

  • Research capability with publications or innovations in relevant areas.
