The overall purpose of the Pharmacist or Pharmacy Manager is to manage the pharmacy and ensure excellent performance including stocks management, medicines management, staff performance and pharmacy service delivery in line with the PSZ mission and values guided by pharmaceutical standards regulations and laws. The role aims to achieve pharmacy objectives and goals in line with the organisational mission and values as well as delivering within budget and timelines. It provides strategic coordination on all matters relating to leadership and management of the pharmacy in the delivery of PSZ’s strategic goals. The position collaborates with other departments and PSZ clinics to achieve pharmacy deliverables, performing tasks related to dispensing pharmaceutical products, stock management including receiving of goods, storage and distribution among other duties.
Duties

Analyse monthly or weekly pharmacy business looking at product lines and propose improvement plans where necessary to inspire stock levels and product ranges

Ensure regulatory compliance and audit preparedness by maintaining accurate records, compliance checklists, and facilitating audits

Ensure all drugs requested and purchased are approved by MCAZ and in line with PSZ or MSI Global regulations for purchase of drugs

Ensure drugs ordered and supplied match the Standard Product List and inform the Director Marketing and Commercial Services and Procurement Department of any changes or challenges

Receive and check incoming medical products and supplies from suppliers and other organisations and ensure quality and standards compliance

Conduct random checks on drug quality and participate in sampling processes for pharmacovigilance

Prevent drug expiry within the pharmacy and monitor expiry dates and minimum medical stock levels, reporting findings to the Clinic Manager or Marketing Director

Keep records of serious adverse incidents such as drug errors, poor quality and expired drugs and lead pharmacovigilance activities including documentation, follow-up, and reporting to MCAZ and the internal Quality Department

Set up an operational framework and strategic direction for the pharmacy

Conduct meta-analysis of centre or clinic business to guide pharmacy product range

Conduct regular feedback or update meetings with the Director Marketing and Clinic Manager to review operations

Utilise digital systems and inventory management tools such as ERP and LMIS for real-time stock tracking and staff training

Coordinate receipt of goods, verify documents against deliveries, and ensure suppliers sign relevant documents

Maintain a clean and tidy pharmacy, supervise stacking of boxes, and maintain correct room temperature and moisture levels while tracking and preserving cold chain requirements

Ensure availability and updating of stock cards

Perform administrative tasks including managing budgets, maintaining records, and handling insurance claims while overseeing the pharmacy’s financial performance through cost-control strategies, margin analysis, and income generation plans

Develop contingency plans for medicine supply disruptions, epidemics, and other public health emergencies
Qualifications

Degree in Pharmaceuticals or equivalent

Practising Pharmacist registered with the Pharmacists Council of Zimbabwe with a current practising certificate

Accounting knowledge is an advantage

At least 5 years’ experience in a hospital pharmacy setup

Excellent written and oral communication skills

Proven computer skills in Word, Excel, and PowerPoint

Clean Class 4 driver’s licence is an advantage
