Legal Assistant – TIMB

A vacancy has arisen within the Tobacco Industry and Marketing Board (TIMB), and applications are invited from suitably qualified candidates to fill the position. The successful candidate will be based at the TIMB Head Office and will report to the Company Secretary.

Duties

  • Provide legal protection and risk management advice to management, particularly on contract management

  • Review and advise management on the legal implications of internal policies and procedures through legal compliance audits

  • Conduct regular compliance audits of departments to monitor adherence to statutory obligations and principles of good corporate governance

  • Assist in ensuring the Board conforms to internal and external legal and regulatory frameworks

  • Draft and review contracts or documentation where the Board is to commit itself, highlighting legal implications for senior management

  • Provide legal support and advice on the conduct of the Board in line with sound legal principles

  • Instruct and manage external service providers in litigation matters to ensure optimal outcomes

  • Prepare monthly and quarterly departmental reports for executive management meetings

  • Capture all Board resolutions for submission to the parent Ministry and Corporate Governance Unit

  • Prepare and submit quarterly corporate governance reports to the Company Secretary for review

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Law (LLBs)

  • Strong knowledge of applicable laws and regulations

  • Minimum of 2 years of commercial legal experience, with at least 1 year in providing legal services

Other Competencies

  • Knowledge of the Data Protection Act

  • Understanding of public procurement regulations

  • Strong interpersonal skills

  • Awareness of the tobacco industry

  • High attention to detail
