Applications are invited from suitably qualified and experienced persons for appointment to the post of Environmental Health Technician in the Health Services Department.

Job Title: Environmental Health Technician
Grade: 9
Reports To: Environmental Health Officer

Duties

Plan, implement and evaluate Environmental Health activities in areas of operation.
Conduct participatory Health and Hygiene education sessions in areas of operation.
Analyse vital statistics at health centers and investigate cases of communicable diseases identified and notified within the community.
Maintain TB registers including contact tracing of defaulters, absconders follow-ups, MDR monitoring and follow-ups, and ensure that collection and transportation of sputum to laboratories is done.
Carry out business premises inspections, institutional inspections and recommend accordingly.
Conduct food premises inspections including swabbing, collection of food samples and meat samples for laboratory testing.
Update the food handlers register, investigate food poisoning outbreaks and food borne infections.
Plan and supervise rodent and vermin control activities in areas of operation.
Conduct environmental assessments and come up with innovative plans that enable sustainable management of the environment.
Conduct active surveillance of the City’s drinking water supplies through water sampling.
Monitor solid, liquid and gaseous waste to minimize land, water and air pollution.
Enforce Public Health Laws, other related laws and City by-laws to offenders.
Perform any other duties assigned by the immediate supervisor.

Qualifications

Minimum of five “O” Levels including English Language, Mathematics and Science.
Diploma in Environmental Health.
Must be currently registered with the Environmental Health Practitioners Council of Zimbabwe.
A clean Class 3 or 4 Driver’s License.
At least two years working experience.
