Agronomist – Local Company

A client in the tobacco industry seeks a qualified Agronomist to work closely with contracted farmers, ensuring production targets, quality standards, and contractual obligations are met.
Duties

Recruit and contract farmers in line with company requirements

Guide farmers on seed selection, land preparation, planting, fertilization, irrigation, pest and disease control, harvesting, and curing

Conduct regular farm inspections to monitor crop growth, input usage, and adherence to good agricultural practices

Identify and address potential risks such as drought or pest outbreaks

Maintain accurate farmer records including acreage, input distribution, and production forecasts

Organize and lead farmer training programs, field demonstrations, and workshops

Provide weekly and seasonal reports on farmer performance, crop progress, and market conditions

Promote continuous improvement and innovation to boost yield and quality
Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree in Agriculture, Agronomy, Crop Science, or related field

Minimum 3 years’ experience in tobacco agronomy, preferably in contract farming

Knowledge of tobacco production cycles, curing methods, and quality assessment

Ability to train, motivate, and supervise a large farmer base

Strong administrative and reporting skills with attention to detail

Valid driver’s license, ability to ride a motorbike, and willingness to travel extensively

Must be available to start immediately
